Acne Treatment Reviews: Murad

Murad Acne Complex® Review

Murad Acne Complex

Murad was founded by Dr. Howard Murad, a dermatologist, and is based out of El Segundo, CA. The company has been around for many years and sells anti-aging treatments and a whole host of other skin care products.

Our Comments: Murad's Acne Complex is a nice looking system. The system is based primarily on Salicylic Acid as it's active ingredient, though the Spot Treatment contains Sulfur at 3.0%. Sulfur is another acne fighting ingredient approved by the FDA. See user reviews below.

Many users report that acne treatments with a combination of Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic acid produce better results for their skin. Unfortunately, Acne Complex does not contain any Benzoyl Peroxide.

Acne Treatment Review for Murad - Review #2
Reviewed by acnefreeyipee on Jan 11.
Summary: I've been an acne sufferer for over 20 years now. Murad was the first product that actually worked for me when used in combinations of other product lines.

The key to fighting acne is finding what works in COMBINATION with your skin. I love the Murad cleanswer... but can't use any of the product because it causes me to breakout.

I use just good old Clearasil ULTRA for spot treatment and the Arbonne's thermal facial scrub once a week. This combination is what works for me to keep my skin glowing and clear.

There is no such product that will leave you acne free. it's in the genes. But, finding a good product like Murad's cleanswer used with other products is what keeps my flares down to a zit or two a month. For me, that's winning the battle.

Pros:
  • Cleanswer cleans without drying
  • smell great
  • leave face feeling clean, no oily
Cons:
  • allergic to all other products in the line

Acne Treatment Review for Murad - Review #3
Reviewed by M. Dias on Feb 14.
Summary: This is the worst acne treatment I have ever used. I have been using thijs treatment for almost 3 months, for the first couple of weeks my skin cleared up, but then... I started breaking out live crazy, all over my face, and my skin started flaking (peeling off) the gel burned and made my skin extremely dry, itchy and sore. the moisturiser is not hydrating, i have stopped using murad and hope that my skin will recover. It is dull, dry and still very itchy!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE!! If you are like me and still buy these products after reading these trerrible product reviews - DON'T - it will ruin your skin!!! I guess the search for a wonder acne treatment continues!!... because this most definitely is not!
Pros:
  • None!!
Cons:
  • Everything!!

Acne Treatment Review for Murad - Review #4
Reviewed by Anonymous from Illinois on Jan 26.
Summary: I have used these acne products for years and I like it a lot. The cleanswer lathers up great and smells good; the gel fades post-marks, clears skin, absorbs well, doesn't feel freasy, and curbs oil production; lotion absorbs well, moisturizes effectively, and doesn't feel greasy; spot treatment - I don't use it because I don't think it works. Instead I substitute Bye Bye Blemish Spot Treatment (the stuff in the little glass bottle), which has the same active ingredient as Murad Spot Treatment (sulfur) but at a much higher percentage. So, over all I like Murad Anti-Acne line with the exception of the spot treatment.
Pros:
  • Works well, yet is gentle
  • Clears & gets rid of hyperpigmentation
  • Smoothes and Soothes
  • Natural Ingredients
  • Multiple anti-acne ingredients
Cons:
  • Sort of expensive
  • Run our of exfoliating gel before other products
  • Spot treatment isn't very effective
