Acne Treatment: Proactiv-Review

Proactiv Plus® Review

Summary: Proactiv+ is the latest version of the popular acne treatment system. Proactiv+ was launched in 2013 by Guthy Renker, the largest Infomercial company in the US. Like it’s predecessor, Proactiv+ treats mild to moderate cases of acne and may not be effective for severe cases*. The product is highly promoted via infomercials and is one of the most highly marketed acne treatmentsin the world. Guthy Renker uses big name celebrities to promote its products including Sean Combs (Puff Daddy) and more recently Julianna Hough and Adam Levine. *According to

The Company behind it all: Guthy-Renker Corporation - a massive direct response (infomercial) television company.

Products: Guthy-Renker Infomercials not only sell Proactiv+, but also Exercise Videos, make-up, Rock n' Roll concert albums and tapes of The Dean Martin Variety Show.

Pluses: Proactiv+ is an easy to use Multi-Step system. It is promoted by paid celebrities so everyone knows about it.

Minuses: Proactiv+ can be drying and irritating to the skin. Proactiv lacks important skin healing ingredients.

Cost: Proactiv+ is fairly expensive at $29.95 to $39.95 per month, this is a price increase from the regular Proactiv

The Bottom Line:  Proactiv has made a name for itself on TV but it also has left many users searching for an acne treatment that does more and does not dry out their skin. Proactiv does not contain many natural ingredients shown in the chart and it may be harsh on your skin.  Also their 60-Day guarantee might be too short for some users to really test the product out

Better than a prescription? The Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology found that Benzoyl Peroxide + Salicylic Acid produced even better results than a leading prescription: so it might be best to look for that combination in the acne treatment you choose.
